The most famous waxworks in the world has its beginnings in the late 18th century. Strasbourg born Marie Tussaud was employed at the court of the French King Louis XVI to make wax figures. She was then imprisoned during the French revolution and used her skills to make models from the heads of Guillotine victims. She came to London in 1802 and toured her collection of wax figures around the country until she set up a permanent exhibition in Baker Street in 1835. Famous people, royalty and sports heroes are highly popular. And should you feel brave enough, a visit to the Chamber of Horrors, is an absolute must!
It is here in the infamous “Chamber” that you can see displays of some of the most evil murderers and villains the world has ever known. There’s even a real French Guillotine as well as an electric chair!
The list of celebrities is awesome and includes Beyoncé, Leonardo DiCaprio, Britney Spears, Christina Aguilera, Michael Owen, Colin Farrell, Diana, Princess of Wales, Prince Charles, Dr. Hawley Harvey Crippen, Daniel Radcliffe, Davina McCall, Elle Macpherson, George Clooney, George W. Bush, The Hulk, Jennifer Lopez, Sylvester Stallone, Jessica Simpson, Julia Roberts, Kylie Minogue, Madonna, Marilyn Monroe, Mahatma Gandhi, Nelson Mandela, Oprah Winfrey, Ozzy and Sharon Osbourne, Paris Hilton, Pierce Brosnan, Pope John Paul II, Tony Blair, Renee Haywood, King Richard III of England, Samuel L. A good tip is to bring along your camera and be snapped next to a waxwork. Then when you get home you can say to friends “You’ll never guess who I met in London…”
