HARRODS
Harrods is London’s most famous department store. Located on Brompton Road in exclusive Knightsbridge, Harrods has been a haven for luxury shoppers for over 100 years.
Harrods was established in 1834 in London's East End, when founder Charles Henry Harrod set up a wholesale grocery with a special interest in tea. In 1849, the store relocated to its current location in Knightsbridge in advance of the Great Exhibition of 1851 in nearby Hyde Park,
The original building was destroyed by fire in 1883, but the disaster gave the Harrod Family the opportunity to rebuild on a much grander scale. The current building opened in 1905 and quickly became the store of choice for London’s rich and famous.
Harrod’s reputation for stocking huge range of high end luxury goods has continued to this day. Throughout its history, the store has changed owners several times. Most recently, on 8 May 2010, Mohamed Al-Fayed sold the store to Qatar Holdings for a sum of £1.5 billion.
